I recently read that File Syncing is not supported on the ipad. What are the options then for using FM Go with seed code. We are looking to record invoices in the field. Contacts and Invoices will need to be updated in both directions, as close to real time as possible. What are your thoughts on the best way to make this happen?

Well if you have cell or WIFI access where you are, opening the database remotely is ideal since there is no synching to be done.

If you're doing this over a cell connection you may want to make special ipad only layouts (and branch your starting script accordingly) so the folks in the field get as fast and streamlined an experience as possible.

You can even have the FileMaker server take on some of the invoice post-processing so that, for example, inventory isn't debited from stock on the iPad, but back on the server after the invoice is posted.

(There are other approaches to consider if data is only going one way: you're only making invoices in the field, or only looking up customer data. Then it might make sense to build a disconnected, take-away copy of the database that, for example, just makes invoices. The invoices could then be sent to the office database by email or using web publishing urls. These back office scripts would re-create the invoice in the main database, debiting inventory etc.)

We offer consulting and modifications to make this stuff happen if you'd like to get in touch.
