Customised script to select range of dates

We are completely stumped. I have asked our school experts and they cannot solve to problem either.
We are trying to create a script that will allow a user to enter a 'begin date' and an 'end date' and for the script to run and find that range of dates from dates already in the file.
It is probably so easy that we cannot see it. I would be grateful for any help.
