Using CalFilterSelectedClientTypeAheadGlob to choose which clients are to be displayed is what I need most of the time but sometimes it would be useful to show all records in a portal.

Is this easy to do?

Yes. In the About / Settings tab of the calendar you'll find a setting toward the upper right that says "Empty Client Filter Shows... All / None". Setting that to all should let you clear the client filter to see everyone. Does that help?
