I have started to print out a few of the calendar views and was wondering how best to get a legend on the page?

Will it is probably easiest to make a little image in photoshop that has the relevant colors and labels. But you can also make a small portal and include it on your print outs: copy the cone from Assign Colors and make it as small as possible. Providing you're printing on a layout based on the CalendarInterface table occurrence, that portal will work.
