I see in the documentation how to change the calendar to show more or fewer events on the grid, but what is the best way to show fewer events with more lines so I can display more information per event? Thanks.

You'll be changing the portal row height to do that. I'd practice on a couple throw way layouts first because there is a lot of sizing to get right: the size of the fields being the same of 1 px smaller than the size of the portal row. A couple of articles that will help:
