Hi,

On Appt - List View, we select Print List to Paper and then change the Print Range to page 2 to 4, etc. It throws us out of File Maker without printing. Can I modify the Print script to allow for manual printer settings to select a range of pages?

PS - Printing those select pages to PDF works fine, but the client wants to print to paper.

Thanks in advance :D

Hi,

This sounds like weirdness with the printer driver if it's crashing FileMaker. The script is just calling the regular print command, so I don't think the script is the problem. Sometimes reinstalling the printer software can resolve these issues, but we're not printer experts by any stretch! Is there another printer you can try?

When you are paused in preview mode, try to use File > Print instead of hitting continue. My suspicion is you'll have the same problem, but hopefully not!

Let me know,

Hi Jason,

Yes, same thing happens in preview mode using File > Print. The client is on a network with 6 printers, all of them get the same result. I can duplicate the error on my standalone PC (Windows XP Pro). So, that pretty much eliminates the driver idea.

Have you tried to duplicate the error on your side? We're using Filemaker Pro 9 with Seedcode Calendar Complete v 1.31.

Thanks

Hi,

I can't replicate this. This is just FileMaker using the OS print command. If it's crashing FileMaker, then something else is going on. Usually when I see this kind of thing I remove and reinstall FileMaker. If that doesn't solve it then I reinstall the printer software.

Does it happen if you don't change the page selection?

Is this something that started happening recently?

Can you print other FileMaker layouts?

Does it happen if you don't change the page selection? No, it doesn't.

Is this something that started happening recently? They just started doing this, so I have no way to tell.

Can you print other FileMaker layouts? I can print (with page selection) the Schedule, Resources and Hours ok, but I tried Contacts and Project Activity and both of those react like the List View. It shows a dialog box stating that it's printing, then the Windows message appears "Filemaker Pro Advance.exe has encoutered a problem and needs to close." As soon as I click "don't send error report" (to Microsoft) Filemaker disappears it has to be opened again.

To reinstall the Filemaker Server software, then all the work stations softwares (plus mine offsite) doesn't really seem like the answer. What would be the odds that every copy of Filemaker is bad? Same with printer drivers - that's 7 different printer drivers.

Jason,

Just realized the difference between the reports (with page selection) that work and don't. The ones that don't work all use the Print Preview screen where you have to select the "continue" button before the printer/page selection appears.

Thanks Jodie,

I'm not sure why pausing or entering preview mode would cause the problem.

Can you disable the script steps that enter preview mode and pause the script, and give that a try? That won't affect the way it prints, it will just run right through.
