adding additional contacts to projects

Good Morning,

I would like to add additional contacts to projects. I very often have many people from different companies associated with a project and I would like to see them displayed in the projects overview.

I have copied the ProjectContactID_kf field and added it to my layout (I named it contact 2). I changed the field to perform the script "Project Choose Contact". However, when I choose a contact, it just replaces the contact already in the first contact field. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Ideally, I would like to have possibly a dozen contact fields available in Projects.

I am using your SeedCode Calendar Complete v 1.35. I have been using FM 9 for a couple of years, but I am still a rookie, go easy on me!

Thanks for the help,
Shelley

Hi Shelley,

I'll put some pointers together for you on this this Weekend. I promise I'll go easy!

Hi Shelly,

I think you are close on getting this set up, but seeing as you are ultimately looking to have multiple contacts associated with a Project, your current approach will start running against some limitations, i.e. you'll need to create a new ProjectContactID_kf for every possible contact related to the project. We call this a "flat file approach," and is one of the main reasons the relational database model was adopted.

Ideally you want to leave the current Contact structure in place, and think of that as the "Primary Contact." We then want to associate additional contacts to the project through a "Join Table." This is where we create a new table in the database that has a key for the Project and a Key for the Contact. We can then use the join table to connect the project table and the contacts table, and have 1 record for each association. We can then set up a portal of the join table on our project page and view the multiple contacts from there. We have adopted this model in our latest version of SeedCode complete.

I know you said you were a rookie, so I'm not sure if you feel up for taking on setting up a join table in your database. If not, please contact me at Support at SeedCode.Com, and we can help getting you some assistance with this.

Let me know,
-Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks so much for the help. I have actually done this previously, but it's been a couple of years. I'm going to give it a shot.

When you mentioned the new version of SeedCode Complete, are you saying this version allows for many contacts in a project? I may have to update and save myself a lot of brain strain!

Again Jason, thanks for the help,

Shelley
