Currently we share our Filemaker Databases over a LAN & VPN is it OK to change the cccalendar settings to multi user or will this cause complications. We do not use file maker server. Will this database work properly without FMServer. Tips will be greatly appreciated.

Using the calendar in a multi-user environment is the same whether you are using FileMaker Pro server or not. The CCCalendar.fp5 file itself is not served and should not be set to multiuser. This file acts as a viewer to the other, served calendar files.

(We have a FAQ entry about how this all works here.)

As for tips, I strongly recommend using FileMaker Pro Server for two reasons: speed and crash protection. On the speed front you simply get better performance with the server. The most important reason, however, involves protecting your data. Should your host or one of your guests crash during a peer-to-peer session, there is a strong possibility you'll loose data and/or corrrupt the databases. With FileMaker Pro Server, guests can crash without adversely affecting the served files. Not to mention the built in backup scheduling that FileMaker Pro Server offers.

FMI's current server promotion is a good way to get started..

Hope that helps.

We've posted instructions for a new mod that will let you serve the calendar front end (CCCalendar.fp5).
