I have set a calendar to Read Only in the "Load Source Settings...." script . This works fine but it also hides the Custom Actions Gear/Cog. I would like to show the Custom Actions panel for Read Only events.

If this is not possible, then I will open directly into a FMP window and do the work to build what I need.

Unfortunately, there is no way to show the custom actions drawer in a source that is set to read-only. For now, the best way to do this would be to use your own event detail layout, as you mention.

I've created a feature-request for this, as it does make sense that you would want to have some read-only custom actions available to the users. I wish I had better news for you, but unfortunately, I don't have a timeline on when this might be implemented in a future update.
