Multiple calendars with different resources

Hello,

is it possible to have two calendars in DayBack, for example SampleEvents and ToDo-List, but with different resources?
Or is it possible to build groups of resources, for example group staff, group rooms, group machines etc. and the ability to switch between groups of resources?

The goal is to show 5 staff-members in resource-schedule for 5 days. Or a group of 3 machines as resource-schedule for 5 days.

If I use two calendar files for different resources I think there is a problem with the global variables $$sc_ and both calendar files have the same resources defined.

How could this be done? Thanks a lot for infos!

Hi Marcus,

This may be simpler than you think. We have a lot of clients who have more than one *kind* of resource: some are people, some are machines, etc. The idea is to keep one field for filtering resources (one global field) but display different value lists over that same field in different situations. The simplest is to modify the filters layout so it has two tabs: one for People and one for Machines. Both tabs have the same global filter fields on them (the one you're already using for resources) but each tab uses a different value list: one just for People and one just for Machines. You can even add a little button to the tab--something like "show all people"--that will a) clear the resource filter, then b) add all the people, using something like ValueListItems().

You can then take this further and have individual event layouts use one value list or other other (if, say, you never assign machines to To-Dos).

Lots of options; and if you stick to modifying the Filters layouts, it's all pretty straight forward. There are some good reference articles here...

Hi John,

thanks a lot for your help. I tried it to switch between groups of resources without using the filter layout.
I thought I could do that with script "Load Resources". If I press the button for group 1, then script
Load Resources is setting the values of $$sc_ResourceShortNames, $sc_Resources and $sc_ResourceList to values
of group 1, otherwise to values of group 2.
But this way it does not work. Maybe there is one more step to do to get this done? Or isn't it possible this way?

Hi Marcus,

The script you've altered will do what you suggest when it runs as part of the calendars Upon Opening script. So if you were changing the resources overall, you've got it. If you want users to be able to change the list of available resources on the fly you do it a little differently. Simply write a new script that sets the value of "CalendarInterface::FilterGlob_3" to the list of resources you're interested in, then call the script "Apply Filters to Webviewer..." with no script parameter.

Provided the list you pass into that global field is a subset of the list you loaded at startup (in the script "Load Resources") that's all you have to do to get those resources to show up in the calendar.

So you could have a "Group 1" button that sets all the group one resources into "CalendarInterface::FilterGlob_3" and a second button that sets all the Group 2 resources: the resources and abbreviations from BOTH groups would be in the script "Load Resources".

Going further I'd then split the Advanced Filters layout into two tabs, both showing the field "CalendarInterface::FilterGlob_3" but one with the Group 1 options and another with the Group 2 options so users could select just a subset of either group if they wanted to. In that case, "clear" wouldn't set the value of "CalendarInterface::FilterGlob_3" to blank, but you'd change it to set the field to the total list of resources in that group.

Is it possible to have two copies of DayBack on the same server? One for resources group1,
the other with resources group2? This would be the easiest way for me.
I tried this locally, but opening the second calendar with different resources, the resources
of the first calendar were then the same as of the second calendar. I think because of using
the same global variables!?

Hi Marcus,

You can have separate copies of DayBack in *separate files* on the same server. You're correct that within one file the setup information is shared and scoped to the file. Each instance of DayBack in a separate file would require it's own license, however (unless you got a vertical market license) so I'd keep *one* instance of DayBack running and use some of the techniques mentioned here to keep your resources straight.
