Without me having made any changes to the programme, all of a sudden IWP does not let one of the users who does not have admin privileges to create new events. When the new event window pops up for a new event all the fields have "access refused" in them. However the same user can open an existing event and duplicate it without any problems. This all happened suddenly today. This user has been able to create and edit events for over a year without any problem. Any ideas how o resolve this ?

Well I found a workaround by creating a new user and redefining a new privilege set. But I still don't understand how the user definition got corrupted so that parts of it worked and others didn't.
