Hi there

THIS is what I have been looking for!
Specifically the schedule part of the calendar with the integrated contacts and all.
I just wish it was slightly faster (it will hopefully be fast enough on better systems than my ancient development laptop).

We were looking into a system called Farmers Wife, bigger, clunkier and a lot more expensive. Sine this is made with Filemaker simple stuff can be quite asily added i imagine.

Do you have a diagram of dependencies that is available (before I buy it)?

I'd like to see how I could integrate one additional (already existing) database and two additional totally new one into the full system.

One of them would generate special invoices for a specific service we provide but that really cant be handled by the seedcode system (existing FMP database). the others would be project related material and shipping databases to keep track of used material and shipped/delivered items.

Do you have any specific ideas or suggestions on how to go forward with a semi-complex task as this?

At what kind of stage do you feel that FMP is starting to show its limitations in terms of usability/response with your solution? 20000 posts, 100000 posts?

I'm sure I'll be back with more annoying questions, esp if we decide to go forward with your solution.

Hi Erik,

If you'd like a tour of the dependencies (the relationship graph) just send me an email (john at seedcode.com) and we can arrange a short screen sharing session so you can poke around under the hood.

Sounds like your invoice solution could be added as a child of the projects table already there, and that your projects extensions could be attached as a 1 to 1 relationships to the projects table in SeedCode.

When it comes to speed, the demo is multi-user ready so you can put it on your production sever and get a real look at how fast it will be.

When it comes to load, the calendar is more sensitive to what is happening on a given day than to the total number of records in the database, though FileMaker will take a bit more time to open files as they get really large.

Hope that helps,

Great! And thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated.

Is there any way to localize the system without totally changing it?
I looked at the admin page but found no hints. I realize that changing the layouts while involved is simple enough, BUT that will also make it a lot more difficult when support is needed as we wont have the same descriptions for things.

I'll continue with the demo for a little while longer to be sure that your system will make a good choice for us, but otherwise you have an incoming order.

EDIT
While I might be a bit daft today...
The docs say that I need the SeedCodeIWP.fp7 file, but there's none included in any of the downlaods Ive found... am I blind? Or cant I test this with the demo?

EDIT 2
Is there a clever way to incorporate the users in the resource view so that we can see if one specific user has been assigned multiple simultanious task at a glance?

No real way around that, I'm afraid. Keeping things the same under the hood (field, layout, and table names) will keep the docs as relevant as possible since they rarely use the field label to describe things but instead use field names. In any event, you'll want to make it your own, so don't be shy about modifying it.

I'll continue with the demo for a little while longer to be sure that your system will make a good choice for us, but otherwise you have an incoming order.

Rather than download the IWP file to demo, you can demo it live on our server. You'll find the url and login information here:

Not sure precisely what you're asking for, but here are a couple ideas...

1. You can add the user to the description of the appointment shown on the Schedule view by editing the definition of the field "ApptTitleDisplayCalc" (of course, you can't edit field definitions in the demo).

2. You can make a simple mod to let you toggle the Schedule view between showing Resources and showing Users. To do this, add your users initials to the Resource list in addition to your resources, tagging them as a different resource type, for instance "Users". Then, edit the field "ApptType_kf_Calc" as follows:

ApptType_kf & "¶" & ApptUser_kf & "¶" & "-"

Now you'll be able to filter the Schedule view by Resource Type and setting the type to "Users" will show your users as the column or row headings.

Hope that helps,

John
