is "Filemaker Server" required for this step? I dont have server, and when I try to do this "external data sources" is grayed out and unavailable, through FM11 advanced.

Hi,

Server is not required for this: the command is gray because we've "locked" the demo file (the purchased version of this file is unlocked). So in the demo you need to run one of our scripts to edit the external data sources: you'll find a script named "Manage External Data Sources" in FileMaker's scripts menu.
